Study in Azerbaijan

Most Azerbaijani universities run two main intakes — autumn (starting September) and, at some institutions, spring (starting February). Applications typically open several months in advance, so it's best to start gathering documents early.

Well-regarded institutions include Baku State University, ADA University, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, and Ganja State University, among others — spanning fields from engineering and medicine to business and the humanities.

Azerbaijan is generally considered safe, with Baku in particular a modern, well-policed city. Standard precautions apply — keep an eye on belongings in crowded areas, and register with your embassy if one is available locally.

The Azerbaijani Manat (AZN) is the local currency, and day-to-day costs are noticeably lower than in most of Europe. Housing, food, and transport are all considerably more affordable in Ganja and Sheki than in Baku.

Bachelor's degrees typically take 4 years, and master's programs generally take 2 years, in line with the standard European Bologna-process structure most Azerbaijani universities follow.

Requirements usually include academic transcripts, a copy of your passport, proof of language proficiency (English or Azerbaijani, depending on the program), and sometimes a motivation letter. Requirements vary by university, so always confirm directly with your chosen institution.
